The European Union (EU) Distressed Products trading desk (DPG) is the leading distressed franchise in Europe. It focuses on making markets, carrying inventory to meet client demand and special situation financing across a number of products issued by stressed or distressed issuers, or issuers in stressed or distressed industries. DPG typically trades with large institutional investors. Products traded include public and private corporate bonds (including convertible bonds), loans, private equity, options, warrants, restructured proceeds, trade and liquidation claims and non-performing loan portfolios.

Typical situations the group specialises in are deterioration in the credit quality of an issuer or industry; bankruptcies and liquidations; out of court financial restructurings (debt-to-debt and debt-to-equity exchanges) and debt or equity rescue or special situation financing.

In this role you are an integral part of the DPG investment process, you will sit on the trading floor and are required to work closely together with Traders, Credit Analysts, Desk Origination & Institutional Client Group (ICG) sales.

Your key responsibilities

  • Responsible for primary ownership of the legal analysis, structuring, documentation and execution risk management of DPG credits/opportunities
  • Identification of profitable business opportunities, for example based on rights/obligations of different stakeholders
  • Management of DPG litigation (potential or actual), collaborating and working closely with external counsel and Deutsche Bank Legal
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the settlement of trades in Europe and capture and assessment of open trade risk
  • Interface between desk and Legal/Compliance internal function
  • Contact point for offshore Loan operations closing teams

Your skills and experience

  • Relevant post-qualification experience (PQE) with good experience in distressed products/ restructuring space
  • Strong legal skills
  • Strong analytical skills and judgment
