Group Description: The Advisory Finance Controllership is a critical function within Evercore’s finance organization that ensures financial precision and strategic support through forecasting, budgeting, revenue accounting, accounts receivable, and billing. The team partners with business leaders to deliver accurate projections, analyze market trends and deal pipelines, ensure compliant revenue recognition, enhance cash flow through receivables management, and streamline billing for timely fee collections. The function leverages tools such as Workday Financial Management, Adaptive, and Anaplan to drive financial transparency and operational efficiency in support of Evercore’s strategic objectives.
What is the Position? Evercore seeks to hire a Director for its Advisory Finance Controllership team in New York.
Primary Responsibilities: This role is responsible for managing and reporting revenue from investment banking activities, including advisory fees and other transaction-related revenue. It focuses on executing key controls under the firm’s SOX 404 program to ensure accurate revenue recognition, regulatory compliance, and effective collaboration with deal teams and business unit controllers. The role reports to the Senior Managing Director of Investment Banking Finance. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition for investment banking transactions in accordance with Evercore’s accounting policies and generally accepted accounting principles (ASC 606)
- Review and confirm revenue recognition supporting documentation, including engagement letters and fee schedules used to record revenue
- Document accounting conclusions where needed, including analysis of ASC 606 and other relevant accounting literature
- Collaborate with business unit controllers, banking deal teams, and the firm’s SEC reporting group to verify deal terms and fee structures
- Support audit requests and inquiries from internal and external auditors
- Maintain complete and accurate records in support of fee events, including a complete audit trail
- Stay informed on regulatory changes and industry trends affecting revenue recognition
- Analyze and account for performance-based compensation agreements
- Prepare ad-hoc presentations related to Advisory business performance for senior management
Specific Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of ASC 606 and its application within investment banking, as well as GAAP
- Meticulous attention to detail in revenue calculation and financial reporting
- Capability to analyze complex revenue data and provide insights for decision-making
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and work with professionals of all levels; must be team-oriented
- Strong process management skills
- Commitment to ethical standards in revenue reporting and client confidentiality
- 12+ years of industry experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; CPA designation preferred
- Public accounting experience covering the financial services industry is a plus
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with Workday Financial Management is helpful
Expected Base Salary Range: $175,000 - $200,000
