About Your Role:
Based in Hong Kong, this role supports business initiatives and projects within the Greater China and Southeast Asia region, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, China, Thailand and other countries. There may be opportunities to engage in wider initiatives across the Invesco group. Reporting to the Head of Legal, APAC, this is a newly created role offering a unique opportunity to work on legal matters primarily of a non- funds nature, as well as strategic projects while also providing general legal support to the investment management business. Key responsibilities are expected to include (but will not necessarily be limited to):
Generate Corporate
- Support the Head of Legal, APAC, on strategic projects, corporate governance matters, and regulatory developments impacting the business.
- Review and advise on general commercial contracts, marketing agreements, vendor engagements, inter-company agreements, and NDAs.
- Coordinate with the Government Affairs team on legal and regulatory matters and assist with the legal work arising out of the geopolitical climate.
- Work with the Global Government Affairs team to monitor APAC policy and regulatory developments and contribute to Invesco regulatory updates and policy publications.
- Support M&A and corporate development activities (including those with regional implications, as applicable).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Legal colleagues in other jurisdictions and regions, Compliance, Risk, HR, and Business Units) as applicable to ensure legal and regulatory compliance across APAC jurisdictions.
- Together with senior Compliance personnel, lead the Regulatory Working Group to identify new trends and evaluate and monitor the impact of regulatory change in our key jurisdictions, and assist with the firm’s response to these changes.
- Lead efforts to standardize corporate secretarial procedures across the various business units and review board resolutions on a needed basis.
- Monitor and advise on evolving legal and regulatory requirements and corporate matters, particularly those with a non-specific funds focus such as in ESG, data protection and privacy, digital assets and employment law.
- Advise on and provide support to other Legal Team members in respect of specific matters, projects and enquiries from a general corporate and/or regulatory perspective.
Human Resources (HR)
- Work alongside the relevant Head of Legal on HR and employment matters including employee relations, immigration, diversity and inclusion, general HR advisory support and contractual matters such as employment contracts and HR service agreements. Take the lead on employee disputes and work with external counsel as applicable.
Intellectual Property (IP)
- Handle Intellectual Property matters in collaboration with Corporate Legal, Atlanta.
Litigation
- Manage litigation and dispute resolution processes; coordinate with external counsel as needed.
Corporate Properties
- Handle legal aspects of corporate properties including entering into or renewing new office leases.
Technology and Security
- Provide advice and counsel in support of Invesco’s data privacy, data governance, and records retention efforts, working closely with the firm’s Global Privacy, Global Security, and Enterprise Data & Analytics teams.
- Serve as legal advisor to corporate level risk committees regarding information technology platform risk matters.
- Partner with Enterprise Risk and Compliance to develop technology adoption and usage policies, as needed.
- Guide governance practices for the collection, storage, processing, and sharing of data and records. Create (to the extent needed) and maintain a firm-wide records retention program.
- Provide counsel and support for Invesco’s cyber incident response activities for a variety of circumstances such as data breach and insider risk. Represent the Legal Department on the Global Security Oversight Committee (GSOC), which is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for global security and cyber security planning and response.
- Work with Government Affairs, the Global Privacy Office, Enterprise Risk and Compliance to monitor relevant legislative and regulatory landscape related to technology and data privacy to provide business partners practical advice to meet changing regulatory requirements.
The Experience You Bring:

- Qualified lawyer with 5-8 years PQE from a reputable law firm (in-house experience is a plus but not required).
- General corporate/commercial background preferably with broad exposure and varied experience. Knowledge of legal issues relating to areas such as data privacy, ESG, and employment law would be ideal, experience in funds/asset management is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Strong analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to quickly grasp and research complex legal and regulatory issues and provide pragmatic solutions.
- Collaborative, proactive and eager to learn.
- A motivated self-starter with the ability to work autonomously.
- Excellent communication skills in English, proficiency in Mandarin or Cantonese is a plus.
