Job Description

Your Role

The Director Distribution Data Officer is a senior leadership role accountable for ensuring data quality, accessibility, and governance within the Distribution data domain and its sub-domains. This role functionally manages data steward squads, ensuring that data governance practices are implemented effectively, and domain data is structured to meet business needs. The Distribution Data Officer serves as the primary leader responsible for executing the enterprise data strategy within their domain, aligning data capabilities with business objectives, building strong relationships with business users, and driving operational excellence in data governance adoption.

As a key member of the Data Operating Council (DOC), this role contributes to the overall data strategy, ensuring domain-specific goals and inputs are factored into broader organizational initiatives.

This role is critical in ensuring that domain data assets are well-governed, high-quality, and strategically aligned with business needs, while also contributing to the enterprise data strategy at the highest level.

You will be Responsible for:

  • Data Quality Leadership: Act as the accountable leader for domain data quality, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and trustworthiness of data assets.

  • Data Strategy Execution: Lead the execution of the enterprise data strategy within the assigned domain, aligning with business objectives.

  • Governance Implementation: Oversee the implementation of data governance practices and policies within the domain and its sub-domains, ensuring compliance and standardization.

  • Business & Technical Alignment: Act as a bridge between business stakeholders, data product teams, and technical teams, ensuring effective alignment of data initiatives. Key for Domain officer to build strong relationships with business partners and end consumers.

  • Compliance & Risk Mitigation: Ensure that domain data complies with regulatory, security, and governance policies, reducing organizational data risk.

  • Practice Adoption & Maturity: Drive the operational maturity of data governance practices across data product squads, ensuring adherence to governance frameworks.

  • Roadmap Development: Develop and maintain clear roadmaps for data products, aligning with business data needs, emerging opportunities, and strategic goals.

  • Data Product Squad Management: Functionally lead data steward squads, providing guidance on governance best practices, issue resolution, and adoption of data policies.

  • Data Operating Council (DOC) Membership: Serve as a key member of the DOC, influencing and contributing to the overall enterprise data strategy.

  • Domain Representation in Strategy: Ensure that domain-specific input, challenges, and goals are well-represented in enterprise-wide data strategy discussions.

The experience you Bring:

  • 8+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or data leadership roles.

  • Proven track record in leading data quality initiatives and executing data strategy within a domain.

  • Strong expertise in data governance frameworks, metadata management, and regulatory compliance.

  • Experience in managing and mentoring data steward teams, ensuring strong adoption of governance best practices.

  • Ability to develop and execute data product roadmaps, aligning with evolving business needs.

  • Strong strategic thinking and leadership capabilities with experience in cross-functional stakeholder engagement.

  • Experience working within data operating models, ensuring domain data goals align with broader enterprise initiatives.

  • Excellent communication and influence skills, capable of driving data governance transformation at scale.

  • Comfortable operating within a matrixed reporting framework

  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, executives, consultants, and co-workers both orally and in writing. Ability to present ideas in clear, non-technical terms to business leaders.

  • Strong leadership capability: ability to provide vision, establish direction and build commitment around that direction across the team.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to see the big picture, thinking and acting strategically

  • Ability to persevere in the face of challenges and exhibit a steadfast resolve and relentless commitment to higher standards, which commands respect from followers.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related technical field.

  • Master’s degree, PhD or other advanced degree preferred.

Additional Compensation Description

The salary range for this position is $170,000-250,000/ year. The total compensation offered for this position includes salary and incentive pay and will vary based on skills, experience and location.
