What role will you play?

As a product centric Senior Software Engineer (Golang), you’ will contribute across the full SDLC including architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, and operations, with a relentless focus on product quality and developer experience. Your work will centre on Macquarie’s internal developer platform: enhancing reproducible, containerised developer environments (including VS Code setup), expanding feature addons, deepening integrations across the end-to-end Macquarie SDLC, and improving reliability, performance, and developer experience at scale. You’ll collaborate with platform, cloud, and security teams to help drive standards and APIs, provide production support for a product used daily by engineers globally, and operate in a lean, high impact environment with broad ownership, taking features from concept to production.

What you offer

  • 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including 2+ years with Golang building production systems
  • Strong grasp of Go fundamentals: concurrency (goroutines, channels), interfaces, error handling, testing
  • Proven engineering best practices (CI/CD, code reviews, pair programming) and a bias for automation and simplicity
  • Experience with Linux, Docker, and operating containerised workloads (Kubernetes experience valued)
  • Proficiency with SDLC tooling (e.g., Git, pipelines, work tracking) and integrating platform services (secrets, observability, artifacts)
  • Cloud experience with AWS (or another major cloud provider)
  • Familiarity with AI assisted developer tooling (e.g., Claude) and interest in applying it to improve developer experience
  • Ability to review, refactor, and elevate code quality and architecture; strong attention to detail in developer facing products
  • Comfortable working with high autonomy and end-to-end ownership in a lean, product minded team
  • Some experience with microservices, distributed systems, and modern API design
  • Understanding of network fundamentals, cross platform developer environments, Windows & WSL2 and relational databases
  • Frontend awareness would helpful, with an understanding of modern web fundamentals; our UI components currently use JavaScript/Vue, but any modern frontend background is welcome
