Morgan Stanley's Firm Risk Management (FRM) Division is an exciting and rapidly growing space. We support Morgan Stanley to achieve its business goals by partnering with business units across the Firm to realize efficient risk-adjusted returns, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses as a result of credit, market, liquidity, model and other risks.

Background on the Position
The role will reside within the Firm Risk Management's Risk Analytics area. Risk Analytics develops market risk, credit risk and scenario analytics models. These mathematical and statistical models provide an overall calculation of market risk across asset classes (e.g. equities, credit), the credit risk of borrowers and their expected losses, the calculation of risk in a time of increased economic stress (i.e. stress testing), and the generation of scenarios associated with increased economic stress.

Morgan Stanley seeks an analyst to join the Risk Analytics Platform and Delivery (RAPD) Group. The RAPD Group works collaboratively with global stakeholders (quantitative analysts, end-users, business analysts and product owners) across the Firm to build, support and utilize a platform for risk model development. The platform supports new risk model development as well as functional enhancements to existing risk models.

Primary Responsibilities
> Developing cutting-edge Python libraries and APIs for quantitative modelers.
> Gaining exposure to and experience with APIs to Morgan Stanley and external systems and library components written in different programming languages, using varied technologies.
> Participating in high-level design discussions, design reviews and peer reviews.
> Contributing to risk model implementation & optimization.
> Following and enforcing software development best practices such as Trunk-Based Development , Test-Driven Development (TDD), unit and integration testing. Required Skills:
> Undergraduate/Graduate/Advanced degree in quantitative fields such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Mathematical Finance, Physics, Statistics and Engineering.
> Solid understanding of the basics of algorithms, data structures.
> Proven track record of proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, JAVA, C++, C# etc.).
> Strong desire to follow best practices and deliver strategic solutions.
> Willingness to learn new technologies quickly.
> Good problem-solving skills.
> Strong communication skills: ability to present complex and technical issues clearly, both verbally and in writing

Desired Skills:
> 1 year of relevant work experience in a role with a strong software engineering background.
> Some experience working as a part of a team; familiarity with collaboration tools such as: code versioning (e.g. git/svn/cvs), task tracking (e.g. Jira).
> Solid understanding of Test-Driven Development.
> Some exposure to financial concepts is advantageous.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $75,000 and $95,000 year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
