What is the opportunity?


The Compliance Manager will join the Regulatory Developments team in our Compliance department.

The role will ensure that RBC Capital markets, Wealth Management and Investor Services businesses operating in Europe are informed of relevant regulatory changes and developments (including enforcement actions, industry guidance / best practice) on a timely basis and so are able to comply with new or changing conduct of business obligations and regulatory expectations.

The role will also be required to coordinate Lessons Learned, develop reporting for Lessons Learned and Regulatory Developments, conduct ad-hoc tasks as requested by the Head of Regulatory Developments and the Head of Compliance Practices.

What will you do?

  • When required, performing “horizon scanning” to identify regulatory developments which will, or may, impact RBC UK’s businesses.
  • Performing initial triage of regulatory change matters relating to Compliance and sharing results with Compliance Advisory, as appropriate.
  • Drafting of the morning “regulatory round up” produced to bring key regulatory developments to the attention of a wide range of stakeholders across the bank.
  • Facilitating initial impact assessment processes in accordance with the processes of the Regulatory Developments team.
  • Analysing proposed and final rules and providing advice and support to key stakeholders in accordance with the processes of the Regulatory Developments team.
  • Maintaining appropriate records to track the assessment and status of regulatory change matters involving Compliance by effectively collaborating with Compliance Advisory.
  • Producing accurate, succinct and tailored presentations for a range of stakeholders highlighting material external developments and anticipated internal impact; and
  • Internal reports for each business platform in respect of UK / European regulatory developments.
  • Generating appropriate management information in relation to regulatory developments.
  • Maintaining standardised documentation in support of the consistent assessment and communication by Europe and APAC Compliance teams of lessons learned
  • Regularly interacting with Compliance Advisory teams across Europe and APAC to remain abreast of the status of Lessons Learned exercises, co-ordinating review and discussion of events that have prompted Lessons Learned exercises and providing oversight and challenge (as required), as well as relevant management information.


What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Demonstrate ability to distil key points from large volumes of information and tailor presentations of summaries to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at different levels within an organization
  • Knowledge of the European and UK regulatory regime
  • Experience of working in an investment bank or wealth / asset management firm

Nice-to-have

  • Experience working as part of, or in close conjunction with, a Compliance team
  • Experience of working with regulatory change: this may have been gained in an analysis, advisory or project management capacity
