What is the opportunity?
RBC Wealth Management Europe (WME) is a leading provider of wealth management. We offer award-winning personalised wealth management services that meet the varied needs of 100,000 account holders, including individuals, charities, and pension funds.
We specialise in helping clients protect and grow their wealth by creating financial plans and investment portfolios that meet personal and professional ambitions and aspirations. Our services range from bespoke, discretionary investment management to retirement planning and tax-efficient investing.
We have an exciting role for an individual to join the WME Business Risk function to act as Lead Risk Partner. We are seeking a genuine, driven, and ambitious individual who is passionate about risk management and who has a good understanding of the investment management and broader financial services industry.
RBC’s expectation is that all employees and contractors will work in the office with some flexibility to work up to 1 day per week remotely, depending on working arrangements.
What will you do?

Partner with 1st line of defence (1LOD) and other teams (including the WME Operational Risk Management Team) to ensure risk behaviours are well embedded across the WME organization:
Support risk identification, assessment and response.
Facilitate regular review of key risks to ensure they are well managed.
Provide oversight of the WME total risk profile through data-driven risk reporting to Leadership, ensuring appropriate escalation and effective risk decision making.
Partner with 1LOD WME teams to support their understanding, ownership and maintenance of all key controls, and their adherence to the framework of key controls.
Orchestrate key business risk governance forums across WME, including both the COO Risk Committee and Client Facing Risk Committee, in support of embedded and mature risk behaviours.
Provision of focused, WME-wide business risk consultancy to address organisational issues and challenges derived across the full spectrum of the RBC risk taxonomy, this will include supporting response to material events through to resolution.
Maintain and support compliance with the Group Risk Management frameworks and associated policies, ensuring compliance with relevant external regulations and internal corporate requirements.
Develop meaningful Business Risk MI for Senior Stakeholders.
Support key business change initiatives, providing SME risk input throughout the change lifecycle.
Build and maintain strong and effective working relationships with internal stakeholders at all levels of the organisation and with external stakeholders as and where appropriate.
Create a risk aware culture across WME, ensuring risk behaviours and risk accountability are well embedded across 1LOD.
Support the Lead Audit Partner and/or Lead Risk Governance Partner in the dispensation of their duties and services as and where required.
Actively participate in aspects of the organisation’s ambition in strengthening a strong culture of inclusion and belonging in RBC, including attending and participating in events i.e. Culture & Community Day, D&I events.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
Proven experience working in or alongside first/second LOD risk management teams including Business Risk, Operational Risk, Compliance, ideally within a Wealth Management environment.
Ability to drive a culture of risk management and compliance, while delivering best-in-class stakeholder experience.
Understanding of end-to-end business processes and technological and data impact on these areas.
Up to date knowledge of the regulatory environment and related challenges affecting Wealth Management.
Proven ability to apply strategic thinking to complex organizational and business issues.
Experienced people manager with the proven ability to coach and develop teams and individuals.
Educated to degree level.
Nice-to-have
Existing knowledge/understanding of RBC values and culture.
