Job Description

What is the opportunity?

The Mid-Market Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Group is a national group within RBC, focused on providing M&A services to private Canadian companies. The group is seeking a Director, Mid-Market M&A to join the team in Edmonton or Calgary, and to support other offices across Canada. The Director will support the Managing Directors and Senior Directors in the preparation of presentations, research materials, proposals, financial models and transaction documentation.

The Mid-Market M&A team is a strategically important offering that provides a value-added service offering. This position is ideally suited for a candidate seeking to broaden their investment banking experience with entrepreneurial clients. Mandates include the sale of privately owned businesses and non-core divisions, acquisitions, shareholder and management buyouts and capital advisory services.

What will you do?

  • Oversee research and documentation prepared by Analysts and Associate Directors

  • Assist Managing Directors and Senior Directors in preparation of internal and external marketing materials

  • Support Managing Directors and Senior Directors in the preparation and presentation of marketing pitches to existing and potential clients

  • Oversee preparation of integrated financial models to support analysis in proposals and transaction documents

  • Assume day-to-day responsibility for transaction execution, including quality control

  • Under direction of team members, follow up and engage with RBC partners including Commercial Banking, Capital Markets and Wealth Management

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Undergraduate degree with a focus in Business, Economics, Mathematics or other quantitative fields

  • 4 to 6 years of relevant work experience in financial services – accounting, corporate finance and or investment banking/M&A capacity

  • Strong ability to prepare integrated financial models including discounted cash flow and valuation analysis

  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks while meeting time sensitive deadlines

  • Strong computer literacy with emphasis on PowerPoint and Excel presentation skills

  • Ability to use research tools to extract relevant background material for business development and transaction support

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment

Nice to have:

  • Working towards or completed CPA, CBV, CFA or other relevant professional designation
