Job Description

What is the opportunity?

You will be a Director within RBC’s Taxation Group reporting into the Vice President Taxation, Europe & APAC.

You will provide tax advice and management of tax-related matters, primarily supporting RBC’s Global Asset Management (GAM) business and its funds in Europe, as well as tax advisory support to other RBC businesses, including Capital Markets (CM) Europe.

You will manage tax-related matters across multiple jurisdictions working in close collaboration with business and functional stakeholders to provide value added tax advice in support of RBC’s businesses growth objectives.

This is a permanent, full-time role and requires 4 days in the office – whilst the position is based at our 10 Fenchurch Avenue office in London, you will also need to work with the GAM business based at 100 Bishopsgate a few minutes away for a certain period of time each week.

What will you do?

Tax advisory coverage, including:

  • As part of the Tax Advisory team, management of tax matters, including corporate taxes, VAT, and fund reporting, in relation to the European GAM business.

  • Review of new products, capital investments, restructurings and fund launches (within the associated Enterprise approval processes).

  • Fund structuring tax advice, transaction documentation review and implementation; managing external tax advisors.

  • Review and update of tax aspects of fund documents, transaction agreements and intra-group agreements.

  • Assist with responding to due diligence queries, RFPs; responding to ad hoc tax queries from the GAM business, custodians and fund investors.

  • Maintain strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders within the GAM Europe business as well as Enterprise stakeholders to support business growth.

  • With Tax colleagues, advising on ad hoc advisory matters including for CM Europe.

  • With Tax colleagues, horizon scanning for tax regulatory changes, particularly related to the asset management industry, ensuring communication of impact and/ or compliance processes are updated (Note: this role excludes delivery of Fund compliance and reporting).

  • Assist business and finance stakeholders in developing tax risk and control processes within the first line.

  • Assist with fund and corporate entity tax audits including ensuring compliance with UK investment management exemption, FIN48 and IFRIC23 analyses.

  • Assist Tax colleagues in relation to ad hoc corporate tax matters, VAT, Transfer Pricing and Pillar 2.

  • Work collaboratively with Europe and HO Tax teams ensuing good communication of business change, audits and other tax matters as they arise.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Relevant professional qualification: Accountancy or Law.

  • Established tax professional with experience gained in the accounting profession / law firms / multinational corporations.

  • In-depth knowledge and experience of the financial services sector essential with particular expertise in fund management.

  • High ethical values.

  • Ability to prioritise goals and objectives and drive shareholder value.

  • Excellent people skills (staff development, team building, partnering).

  • Open and flexible to learning new skills and technical areas.

  • Good knowledge of tax legislation together with detailed knowledge of tax regulations relevant to the financial sector.

  • Able to apply best practices in conjunction with commercial awareness.

  • Proven record of drafting tax advice.

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience of working at a large financial institution.
