• Special situations encompass a broad range of corporate actions, with significant focus on merger arb, pre-M&A events, and spin-offs
• The role incorporates various aspects of corporate finance, legal / regulatory analysis, financial markets / instruments, sales, data analytics, and entrepreneurship
• The candidate would:
o originate and help conduct expert conference calls for our clients
o assist the team with all aspects of client coverage, which includes proactive client communications as well as administrative tasks of meeting coordination
o be expected to help the team keep track of deal-specific and pre-event information so as to contribute to the morning process and the risk management of the cash trading desk
o liaise with derivatives and financing desks
o produce analytical content on corporate actions within the team’s coverage universe
o eventually be expected to expand the team’s coverage to include potentially SPACs, share-class trades, and cross asset event driven trades, and to work on systematic strategies to assess and manage risk in corporate actions

Your team

• The Special Situations team focuses on US and Canadian merger arb, as well as on corporate events such as exchange offers and Dutch Tenders, Spin-offs, and Pre-M&A, amongst other corporate action / liquidity events.
• The team works closely with our counterparts in Europe, Australia, and Asia in analyzing cross border corporate events.
• The team also services and covers merger arb and event driven hedge fund clients.
• The team works with multiple desks including cash trading, derivatives, equity finance, prime brokerage, and index, with the goal of providing desk risk management while providing top tier content and advice to hedge fund clients in order to enhance trading commissions.
• The candidate would supplement the team's desk work in both merger arb and pre-event situations as volumes have increased. The candidate would also take on tasks required for effective full-service client coverage. The candidate’s work would allow our desk to expand existing transaction coverage universe within merger arb and pre-event, which will help increase trading revenues. There will also be opportunities for the candidate to fill gaps in our event-driven coverage across areas that have seen less focus on the desk due to bandwidth constraints.

Your expertise

• The candidate will have a college degree, with proven academic excellence. A Masters or relevant work experience encouraged but not required. Coding familiarity or experience is also encouraged but not required. Strong analytical, reading, and writing skills are essential.
• The candidate will be driven, analytical, detail-oriented, and eager to learn.
• The candidate will demonstrate proven success in sales, working within teams, succeeding in high pressure situations, solving complex problems, and taking on new initiatives.
